To find an exact anwser to your question is important to know the brand of your outboard motor, horse power (h.p.) and ehether is a two stroke or four stroke.

Yamaha Outboard Motor MODEL, PRE-FIX and SERIAL NUMBER’S are stamped on a metal plate which is mounted on the transom clamp bracket located at the rear of the boat. Though Yamaha no longer associates a production year with a model, you'll know your outboard's model and the year in which your outboard was produced. All of the six states, with the exception of South Carolina - which uses the 'manufacture date' from the manufacturer's statement of origin - accept the 'year built' on the motor. I've got an f80 Yamaha 4 stroke outboard motor. It started missing last fall and has gotten worse. I changed plugs for the hell of it and found no difference. I've worked on cars for 30 years and know that marine is different. The motor hiccups like a lean missfire every few seconds. No 1 & 4 coil contributes less than no 3 & 4.
